The Euro is the legal currency on the Canary Islands, as in the rest of Spain. The local time zone isGreenwich Mean Time, and GMT plus one hour in the summer, thus making it an hour less than in the mainland of Spain, the Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla. The decimal metric system of seven basic units is used for weights and measures and electric devices function using 220 volts. Plugs follow the European system of round pins. Even though water supply and quality is guaranteed by the public network, as in the rest of the country, bottled water consumption is very common. All well known and important bank cards are accepted in almost everystore.
