The Carnival is the most important festivity for the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Over a period of three weeks, the every day life of the city changes constantly, as the city itself dresses up and doesn´t stop dancing, communicating and having fun. The atlantic and cosmopolitan style which characterize Gran Canaria´s capital city is the best guarantee for the celebration of an event based on fun, imposture, disguise and tolerance.

The 2009 festivities will have the world of pirates as background, with plenty of adventures and hidden treasures in Santa Catalina Park, where the programme´s most important events shall take place.

During the Carnival, the pirates will mix symbolically with fancy dresses and masks with enough space for freeedom and transgression. During the 2009 Carnival festivities we can all be buccaneers, freebooters, privateers, pirates or heroes in a vast adventure-filled ocean which will submerge the whole city.
